Encounter. Consider. Discuss. Act.
We believe that the first step to positive social change is gathering and disseminating useful information on the state of our health and society. Until we are on the same page — until we all understand the nature and extent of our problems — it doesn’t make much sense to expect those problems to fix themselves.
The busy nature of modern lives serves to inadvertently reinforce existing injustices. Who wants to come home from a long day at a stressful job and then spend the little free time they have trying to engage others about depressing and seemingly intractable social issues? Max Weber famously referred to politics as the slow boring of hard boards, and cautioned a “resolve of heart which can brave even the failing of all hopes.” It is rarely easy to accomplish something worthwhile. But each of us can make a contribution, and it is up to you to decide what your contribution will be, and to develop the resolve to see it through.
“Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of the events, and in the total, all of these acts will be written in the history of this generation.” -RFK, 1966.
